Yes, her nose is covered with sand. :-)
Breezy had her very first beach experience yesterday at Its Beach in Santa Cruz. Well, I'm guessing it was her first, but as a rescue dog, who knows? She was cautious at first but then made friends with a chihuahua and a Boxer and discovered the joys of having her face covered with sand (above!) and tackling dogs six times her size. She never cozied up to the waves, though. Too scary! Besides, dachshunds were bred to hunt badgers, not swim with the fishes.

Checking out the beach smells with big foster brother Brogan.
Breezy can now walk nicely on her leash, sit for her dinner and is making great progress in coming when called. She bounces like her legs are spring loaded, which I've learned is a min pin trait. Despite her long doxie body, she is a true athlete and is amazing to watch run, jump and balance on the tiniest perch.
Enjoying the 'den' Brogan (background) thoughtfully dug for her in the sand.
She also had a very successful visit with a friend's two dog-savvy young children. It's nice to see a small dog like kids - it's a pretty rare thing to see in rescue!
Whew, I'm tired! Breezy in her seatbelt ready to head back over the hill to San Jose.
Probably the thing I'm enjoying the most about Breezy is her total capacity to cuddle for hours. She just wants to be on your lap, in your arms, or curled up in a ball against your side. Properly positioned (in her opinion) on her back in your arms, she looks up at you, sighs in contentment, and places one dainty paw right on the tip of your nose. I've never had a dog do that to me and it just about kills you with the cute factor.
